In the state of Oregon, you are required to give your social security number so the insurance agent can pull your credit. Based on your credit is how they determine your insurance rating. How does your credit affect your driving record?
Statistics show that drivers with bad credit are bad drivers. If that was the case with every driver I would understand a little more as to how that affects the driver's premium. There are a lot of drivers with great credit and are bad drivers.
When they pull your credit, they are not pulling the credit score. The system is gathering certain information from your credit to create an insurance score. Based on the score that is created is a factor in your premium. Unfortunately, we can not rate each person case by case, though it would probably make a lot of people happy.
You may not feel that your credit score determines how you drive, but the State of Oregon does.
